Plans are underway to complete one of the city’s most beautiful bike and hike trails.
When done, the Jeffrey Open Space Trail (or JOST) will run 4.5 miles along Jeffrey Road, from Portola Parkway to the 405 Freeway. There’s now a 1.2-mile gap between the 5 Freeway and Barranca Parkway.
Irvine Company built the existing $30 million trail and gifted it to the city, which plans to add the missing segment in the next few years, according to this OC Register story.
The 76-acre linear park trail winds through meadows, stone tunnels, woodsy greenbelts and artistic monuments detailing the region’s history through the centuries. Eventually, it is envisioned to link to other trails to become Irvine’s second uninterrupted mountains-to-sea trail.
