Irvine tops OC as ‘Sustainable Government of the Year’

The City of Irvine has been named the “2017 Sustainable Government of the Year” for recycling and waste reduction.

Sustain OC presented the award Oct. 19 at its annual expo to promote sustainability and clean-tech industry in Orange County.

Irvine was honored for its zero-waste initiative at the annual Irvine Global Village Festival, which draws more than 20,000 people. Among other things, the festival features recycling and composting carts, each staffed by OC Conservation Corps members to help the public reduce waste going to the landfill. More info here.
