A Look Back: This was the front door to the Irvine Ranch

This distinctive circular building near the 5 Freeway and Myford Road once served as the front door to the Irvine Ranch. It displayed murals and artifacts tracing ranch history back to Spanish Dons. It welcomed 15,000 school children each year as part of their tours of the Irvine Ranch. And it helped homebuyers find new homes. A 1968 newspaper ad for the center reads in part: “This rich land … is changing the face of California … Homes in every price range now under construction in five individual communities.” (Photo courtesy of the Irvine Historical Society.)
