A Look Back: Irvine’s first store

Did you know that Irvine’s first store opened in 1912, next to a blacksmith shop and a train station along the Santa Fe Railroad? Soon a hotel went up behind the general store (shown here in 1915) to house seasonal ranch hands. And soon after that, on May 1, 1914, the little town changed its name from Myford to Irvine. Today, this area near Sand Canyon and the 5 Freeway is called Old Town Irvine. (Photo courtesy of the Irvine Historical Society.)
